Welcome to my online journal of my time here in Africa. It started awhile back as I worked on raising the support to go Africa and now I am here. I will be updating it with storeis, pictures, praises and prayer requests as often as I can. Thanks for checking it out!

I AM Poems

This week at youth group we had the youth fill out some I AM poems. The topic this week was about Understanding Yourself. Basically it was talking about how we are special and uniquely created by God. Each teen filled out this poem and when I read them tonight many of them touched my heart. Below is one of the poems and after that I have included a few answers from some of the other poems. The bold print is what is written on the poem and the unbold print is what the teen wrote in response.

I AM
I am beautiful and blessed (two special characteristics you have)
I wonder whether I'll find a job (something you are curious about)
I hear the world crying for peace. (an imaginary sound)
I see the nature and its beauty. (an imaginary sight)
I want to go to heaven one day. (an acutual desire)
I am beautiful and blessed (the first line of the poem)
I pretend I am tough (something you actually pretend to do)
I feel sorry for the poor and orpahns (a feeling about something)
I touch many things around me (an imaginary touch)
I worry about those who don't know God (something that really bothers you)
I cry when people spread rumors about me. (something that really bothers you)
I am beautiful and blessed (the first line of the poem)
I understand the pain of being rejected (something you know is true)
I say I believe in God (something you believe in)
I dream to be married to a loving and caring man (something you actually dream about)
I try to help those in suffering when I can (something you really make an effort to do)
I hope to adopt 2 orphans and have 2 of my own (something you actually hope for)
I am beautiful and blessed (the first line of the poem)
Some of the other answers were:
I understand suffering
I worry about my family
I cry because sometimes I feel lonely
I hope I will have a faithful husband (not something most teens really worry about)
I worry about not making the right choices
I want to finish school before I give birth
I feel like nobody cares about me anymore
I understand that in the world you should suffer
I worry about my grand-mom who is sick
I see poor kids eating out of a rubbish bins (garbage can)
I am a very bad person
I dream to become a christian one day
I wonder if I will every get a girlfriend
I am very attractive in the eyes of Jesus
I hope we all go to heaven
I worry if people are my friends
Some of these things are common for all teens around the world but some of these things are not anything I would think of or worry about. It has just reminded me that the teens here have a lot of worries and concerns that have never really thought of. These poems have opened my eyes to some of the things that I need to be praying for these girls and also it helps me to better understand where they are coming from. Please keep them in your prayer.
